Your day trip to Meknes and Volubilis begins after breakfast when we pick you up at your hotel or riad in Fez at 10:00 am (although the Fez desert tours are flexible enough to meet you at another time if that's more convenient for you, just let us know what's best for you!)
It's not a long trip to drive first to Saint Moulay Idriss, a lovely precariously balanced spot on the edge of Mount Zerhon with spectacular views of the beautiful Moroccan countryside, including Volubilis. It is a place of pilgrimage for Muslims, as it is believed that those who cannot afford to go on the Hajj to Mecca can visit Moulay Idriss five times in their lifetime to gain equal status. The village itself is beautiful with many charming souks to visit, although only Muslims are allowed to enter the tomb of Idris I of the Idrisid dynasty. He reigned from only 788 to 791 AD, but his dynasty is credited with converting Morocco to Islam and he was the great-great-great-grandson of the Prophet Mohammed of Islam.
